2021.10.25 20:07 sickpeltier “We are not responsible for quality of service”....
So I opened ledger live for the first time in a while and see a new, discover, tab. There is Lido, for staking eth. Never heard of it. So I click it and it says ledger is not responsible for lost funds. Ok, cool people do dumb shit everyday, but also says “or quality of service from such application”. Now this is where I don’t agree. It’s your site, your company and your name, I would think a company should know who they are supporting and allowing on the own site. I feel like there should be something saying, “this isn’t us but we’ve looked into these guys, they’re legit. We trust them.” Something a little more than good luck would be nice I guess. Don’t think I’ll staking eth. At least not there.

Nobody in Salem blamed you for picking on the old witch, she was a lonly women. No family. No friends. No money. If she dropped dead no one would have noticed. The local kids used to throw rocks at her whenever she passed by, she would only mumble and shuffle away. Only one of the kids let her be, though he never stopped his friends and classmates, he never joined in on their so called "fun" he was too busy on studies. His straight A's would lead him far away from the small town he desperately wanted to leave. "Bowen, come on the old sod is running to the creek, we're gonna see if she floats or not" said david, an older chap in his class. "No thanks, maybe I'll catch up to you in a little bit" said Bowen, he was a soft spoken young man. Good morals, well behaved and raised up to have good manners. He spent most of his free time exploring the woods behind his house, while his sister churned butter and his father chopped wood. His mother passed away while he was in his younger years, he was a particularly difficult pregnancy. His feet slammed one after the other on the dirt road, ripping up dust and leaving behind a trail of ten and a half foot prints. A copy of his favorite literature book planted on his head, protecting him from the falling rain. His front door creaked open slowly, he didn't want to wake up his father, he layed asleep in a rocking chair planted in front of a stone chimney home to an open flame. Carefully he slipped off his shoes and made his way up the stairs, his sister layed on her bed playing with her straw doll. "Bit old to be playing with that raggedy thing aren't you?" Said Bowen. "Shut up" Lucy retorted, "how's pa doing?" He asked. Lucy was closer to their father then Bowen, she had been around him for fifteen years. Soon to be sixteen in the coming autumn. "Not good, it's the anniversary" said Lucy. Bowen choked down tears, "oh" he said "another year gone, eh?" He said. Lucy nodded sadly. "Well, I'm off to bed, I'll be getting up to make a special breakfast for pa" he said. Lucy smiled "you always say that, then I end up making it" bowen stuck his tongue out. The sun peaked over the mountain to the east, shining through the cracked window and invading Bowen's personal space. A cock croaked in the distance welcoming the hot summer morning. As if it were an old friend. Bowen swung his legs over the edge of his bed and slipped on his slippers, the floorboards creaked as he ran down the stairs at a sprint. His father sat at the kitchen table eating bacon and eggs, bowen scowled at Lucy. "Told you I always end up making it instead" she said, Bowen raised his middle finger, he didn't know what it meant, an older classmate used the gesture on a teacher. "What does that mean?" Asked lucy, their dad looked up "bowen! Put that down, lucy! Stop mocking your brother" he was a quiet man, but could make the bears run for the hills when he wanted to. "Sorry pa" they said in unison. "Pa? Is there any chores you want me to help with today?" Asked bowen. "No bowen, I've gotten most of the chores done, go on an adventure!" His father said with enthusiasm "your mother's adventurous nature lives on in you, don't forsake it" he said, lucy stomped her foot "I'm adventurous too pa!" She exclaimed. He smiled, "well then, by all means you and your brother go, follow the wind" he said, he finished his breakfast and threw on his hat. "I'll be at the market, we're out of bacon" he winked at them and closed the door behind him. They ran to the window, their father tipped his hat to every women he passed. Bowen put on his loafers and laced them tight, "where are you going?" Asked lucy. "You heard pa, I'm going on an adventure" bowen replied. "Fine, I'll be in my room" said lucy, "guess you're afraid!" Yelled bowen. Lucy whipped around "am not!" She yelled, bowens face twisted into a grin, "let's go then." The forest was in the early stages of the fall season, squirrels and raccoons were shuffling about searching for food for the winter. Elk and deer didn't seem to be fazed by bowen and Lucy's presence. "This is boring Bowen!" Complained lucy, bowen ignored her. "I want to go back!" She continued, "fine then go back, I'm staying here" replied bowen. She folded her arms, her sign of irritation "bowen you're twelve and I'm fifteen, so you have to do what I say!" Bowen shot her a nasty look, "you're not pa" he said. She ground her teeth, then her face dropped, "Bowen, get down" she whispered. The forest went silent, no chirping of crickets or whistling of birds, "what?" Bowen asked, lucy shushed him, her gaze reached behind him, bowen slowly turned following her gaze. The forest was silent and still, then he understood. A dark figure in a cloak walking, nearly gliding to the west. Bowen dropped to his stomach, lucy followed suit "what is that?" She asked "I don't know" bowen answered. The figure stopped, and looked around for a moment or two, then it continued down a hill. "Come on let's go home!" Lucy begged "hold on, I want to see where it's going" said bowen. "No" lucy retorted, but he had already made up his mind. Bowen took off into a sprint, hiding behind trees as to not get caught. Lucy followed, occasionally telling bowen he was being stupid. The sound of feet stepping on wooden planks caught their attention, they stopped and took a peak around the corner of a redwood tree trunk. The hooded figure was on a porch of an old worn down log cabin, the door swung open, though they didn't see a hand make contact with the bronze doorknob. "Come on, let's go" said bowen, reluctantly lucy followed him down the hill. They ducked behind a fallen over oak tree, the atmosphere on the hill seemed off somehow, like they were being loomed over. "Bowen, isn't that your friend daniel?" Asked lucy, bowen followed her finger, the window it was aimed at was cracked and mended together with spider webs home to many dead insects and small birds, beyond that Bowen's friend Daniel. His hands were tied and his mouth gagged, "naughty children!" Yelled a shrill voice. The old hag shuffle over to Daniel, he thrashed and screamed though it was muffled, the women's thumbs made a home in Daniel's eye sockets, blood leaked down his cheeks and stained his white collar. Then as if his very life force was pulled out of his body, his frame shriveled in seconds and dropped to the floor mummified, the silence broke, lucy and bowen found themselves screaming bloody murder. The old women's head snapped into their direction, a hand planted itself on Bowen's shoulder "run!" Yelled lucy. Trees whistled passed as they sprinted, twigs snapped, leaves crunched, and the adrenaline in their veins demanded that they run faster. Their heartbeats slammed against their eardrums, the front door to their house nearly splintered from the sheer force of speed slamming into it. "What the hell happened back there?" Asked bowen, "I don't know, but I think I'm going to be sick" said lucy. "Kids?" Yelled a voice, "pa?" Lucy answered. There father shot out of the attic staircase, "pa!" Yelled bowen. They ran up the steps and embraced their father, nearly tipping him down the stairs "where have you two been?" He asked, "we were in the woods, we were only gone for an hour or two" said lucy. Their father looked confused "you two have been gone for eight hours" he said, they had been running so hard and so fast they didn't realize it was dark out. "Go get in bed, you both have school tomorrow morning" lucy climbed in her bed, she was shaking the entire bed frame. Bowen slipped under his blankets, "lucy?" She turned to him, tears stained her rosey cheeks "are you okay?" Bowen asked she just quietly shook her head, "me neither" that's the last thing he said before sleep took him. Bowens eyes shot open, his room was pitch dark. His heart was racing, and it was practically impossible to breath. "Lucy?" Bowens voice was shakey, he tiptoed his way over to his bedroom door and cracked it open, the house was still and quiet. The door across from his own was shut tight, "lucy?" He said again. He pushed the door open, lucy stood in the center of the room, standing parallel with the hooded figure from the woods. "Ma, I missed you" said lucy, the figure pulled down its hood. It was their mother, "ma?" Asked bowen, lucy turned her head to meet bowens gaze, their mothers face sunk, and shriveled, turning into the old women. Bowen screamed, lucy turned back to the figure, she tried to let out a scream, but the old hag shoved her hand down her throat. Just like Daniel hours before, bowens dear sister shriveled and crumbled to the floor. The witch progressed towards bowen, but he was quicker. Evading her advancements and dodging her lanky arms, bowen dove into his room, the witch not far behind. He swung open his wardrobe and hid behind his winter peacoat. He had found sanctuary, or so he thought, the clothes parted to reveal the monstrous creature, reaching out to him with excitement. Her skin was a greyish brown color, her eyes a cloudy blue, her wispy hair glowed a silver white in the moonlight, and her skeletal frame that looked as if it could break under any sum of pressure creaked. Bowens mouth opened on its own. "Pa!!" The witches arms fell to her side, she shrieked a shrill screech and flew out the window in a cloud of black mist, shattering the glass Paine all over the floor. Bowens bedroom door busted open, his father stood with a musket in hand. "Bowen?" He jumped into his father's arms and wept into his shoulder. "What's wrong? talk to me kiddo" he said calmly, Bowen couldn't stop the tears no matter how hard he tried. "I saw something, it was in Lucy's room! It killed her, I couldn't stop it" his father looked confused "lucy?" He asked. Bowen continued to cry, "my only sister is dead" he sobbed. "Bowen" he looked up at his father "you've never had a sister." Bowen's mind was spinning, his father, his classmates, even Lucy's best friends testified that he didn't ever have a sister. He knew the truth, he knew what was real, he couldn't have imagined her annoying behaviors for twelve years straight. It seemed however that everyone in town had their mind made up, bowen cluff was an only child. He found himself from time to time kneeling on the hardwood floor of her room, the very spot where her body had turned to dust. No memory of her to be found, no toys, no bed, no paintings. The family portraits that hung in the house lacked her presence, even though she was in them just days ago. Bowen felt sick, he sat on his bed staring out his broken window "bowen?" It was the voice of one of his best mates, "hey man, we miss you" he said. "Not now nelson" bowen replied. Nelson thought for a moment, "we're going to go cliff jumping at the dam, do you want to come?" Bowen thought for a moment. "Ok" he finally said after a long silence, "great! Race you there!" Replied nelson. The two boys ran down the dirt paths that intertwined their small community, bowen felt a little better, but not by much. All his friends were wating for him, nicholas hunt, Scott Wiltbank, jackie Morris, Aaron Mcginley, Roger Crawford, and Hunter Robinson. They had all been friends since their second year in school, "he's alive!" Yelled jackie. "Barely, he hasn't eaten or slept in days, look at him he can barely stand" said Aaron. Bowen smiled, "still look better then you don't I?" He laughed, Aaron smiled "true" he said. "Are you two pansies gonna kiss or can we jump off the damn dam already?" Yelled hunter. They all laughed and began to strip. The water was cold but the summer breeze kept them warm, Roger was the only one who could do a double flip in three seconds before hitting the water thirty feet below. Bowen had almost forgotten the pain he had concerning the loss of his sister. Almost. "I'll be back, I want to go for a little hike before we head back" said Aaron. He walked off on his own into the nearby treeline on the bank to the east. The rest of the boy's dressed and slipped on their boots, "do you think we'll ever be able to leave this crummy place?" Inquired jackie. "Where you want to go jackie?" Asked Nicholas, "I suppose I'd go to Canada" jackie answered. Bowen laughed, "my father once told me that if you get frost bite they'll cut off whatever is frost bitten, you'll probably go to Canada and have to get your dick cut off!" He said. Jackie looked mortified, just then Aaron came running out of the forest slamming into the group. "Aaron, you okay? What happened?" Asked hunter "the witch, she appeared out of nowhere and killed Lincoln, I barely got away" tears fell down his face. "Who?" Asked roger, "what the hell do you mean 'who?' Lincoln ya dipshit!" Yelled Aaron, they all searched their minds, but found no memories of anyone named lincoln. Aaron was inconsolable, after fourty five minutes bowen took it upon himself to walk him back to his house, "so, lincoln was killed?" Asked bowen. Aaron stopped in his tracks, "do you remember?" Asked Aaron "no, the same thing happened to my sister" Aaron looked up at bowen, "bowen we keep telling you, you never had a sis-" he stopped in the middle of his sentence. "I think it's the witch, I watched my sister die, now no one remembers her except for me, same thing with lincoln for you" Aaron thought for a moment, "how can we be sure we're not both crazy?" Bowen thought for a moment, "does the name Daniel law ring a bell?" Aaron shook his head. "That's because I watched him die as well, I think when she kills people it wipes them from the memories of anyone who didn't see the death first hand" Aaron's head dropped "I always knew that old hag was a witch" somewhere in the distance a twig snapped, their heads turned in the direction. The hooded figure stood in the treeline watching them, it removed its hood to reveal the oh so familiar white hair, its eyes were more clear this time, it also had more meat on its bones, its skin was still greyed and spotted as if it was leprous. It pointed at the two boys and let out a deafening shriek, "run!" Yelled Aaron. The two boys took off into a sprint, the witch followed. Her black mist shriveling all the trees and plants it touched, turning everything into dust and soot. The two boys ran faster and faster, their hearts demanding for relief. Aaron's leg snagged on a branch, bringing him down hard, bowen stopped to help him up. "You okay?" He asked, "shit she's right on us" said Aaron. The witch appeared right above them, Bowen picked up a branch and swung it at her. He hit her in the rib, "ah, little shit!" Yelled the witch in a demonic voice, she backhanded bowen across the face sending him flying into a tree. It tackled Aaron to the floor and wrestled with him, Aaron spat in its face. It tsked and shook its finger, then it grabbed Aaron's throat and began to suck out his life. Aaron's face sunk, and his eyes went dim, his hand found a rock and he smashed it across the witches cranium. It let go and Aaron's life came back into him, it screamed, blood leaked out of its head and levitated towards the sky. Aaron helped bowen up to his feet and they took off once more, the witches screams echoing behind. They ran all the way into town and told anyone and everyone what happened with the witch, "we need to hunt her down and hang her!" Yelled a man in a black tweed suit coat, "we need to burn her at the steak!" Yelled a woman in a yellow bonnet. Everyone cheered "kill the witch!" They roared. They grabbed their weapons of chaos, pitch forks and torches and rifles fashioned out of the finest metal and oak wood. They chanted as they marched towards the witches cabin, yelling derogatory terms. Bloodlust seemed to flow off of them. The two boys followed, though at a distance. Soon enough the group was at the clearing where the witches cabin sat, waiting silently. Something about it was alive. The two boys waited behind the very fallen over tree bowen and his sister found cover behind just weeks ago. "Come on men, for our wives! For our children!" Yelled the man in the black tweed jacket. The mob charged into the house, ripping up mud and dead leaves, the door slammed behind them and the woods plunged into silence. Then the screams began, the townsfolk's very lives were drawn from their bodies, some had their eyes plucked out, some had their jaws ripped off, some had their very skulls ripped off of their spines. The cabin fell silent, then the front door swung open, a maroon colored mist flooding its way out into the summer night. The witch stepped out, she was younger, still old and frail. But younger nonetheless. Her hair was grey in spots, but darker then it had ever been. Her skin had less wrinkles then the dead leaves on the ground, her eyes a deeper blue then the ocean itself. The boys ran up the hill away from the cabin. The church door splintered, from the boys slamming their fists into the old wooden frame. The bloody old prick certainly took his time answering the door. "What the hell do you two trouble makers want? It's the middle of the night!" Yelled the white collar, "father martin please listen, it's the old women she's on a rampage, she's draining people's essence and turning them to dust" the boys said overlapping each other. "Silence you fools!" Yelled the priest. They went quiet. "Now, one of you tell me what is going on, calmly please" father martin said. Aaron told the priest everything, through tears he told the old man about Lincoln's death. Of course father Martin didn't believe their accusations, he had known everyone in the town for the past thirty years and never had any sort of memory of anyone named lincoln myers, "heather and Andrew Myers never had any kids, if they had, I think I would have the memory of their child's baptism" he said after a moment of silence. The priest slammed the door in their face, "come on, my dad will know what to do" said bowen. The two boys ran through town center, their footsteps echoed through the back alleys of salem. "Dad!" Bowens dad appeared at the top of the stairs "bowen? You okay son?" He asked "no! No I'm not!" He yelled back. His father made his way down the stairs, "what's wrong? Aaron? What are you doing here?" He asked. "Dad please listen to us, the witch, she has been draining the life out of everyone in town" his father paused "please belive me" bowen said. "I believe you, I don't quite know what you're talking about, but I believe you" they hugged, then something slammed into the door. Something large that shook the whole house, "get behind me both of you!" Yelled bowens dad. They followed his directions. The door splintered, a blinding light slivered in through the cracks then the door flew off its hinges entirely. The witch stood in the doorway, she was much younger. As if she was never the old hag they would throw rocks at, her hair was pitch black, her eyes a deep blue, her skin clearer then it had ever been before, her beauty would almost be hypnotizing. If it weren't for the fact that they had watched her murder half the town just hours before. Bowens dad unloaded a round from his musket into her chest. She let out a shriek of pain, and backhanded mr cluff all the way across the room. Her attention now aimed at the boys she charged them, another blow from the musket took out a chunk of her head. She screamed in agony, her head snapped in the direction of bowens father. He stood with his musket aimed at the creature, he took another shot, but was out of rounds. She ran towards him, in a jerky motion, almost as if it was a foreign action for her. She slammed mr cluff against the wall, pinning her hand against his chest and leaving a hole in his torso painting the walls with blood, heart, and bits of broken ribs. His body violently convulsed until it shriveled just like the others. Her body healed itself, the gore of her newst victim acting as an antidote for her injuries. The two boys ran up the stairs, bowens eyes blinded by his father's ashes.
The two boys threw themselves out the upstairs window, twisting their ankles on the hard ground below, they were hurt, but away from the witch for now. They hobbled their way to the nearest house, hunters house. They knocked furiously, "Aaron? Bowen? What are you two doing here?" Asked hunter, "let us in, the witch, she's on our trail" said Aaron. Hunter hurried them in, the door locked behind them. "What's going on?" Asked hunter groggily, "I told you! I told you assholes what happened to my sister and you didn't belive me!" Yelled bowen, hunter yelled back "you dont have a sister, you've been making shit up since you were a kid!" Bowen punched him in the face, the room fell silent. Then hunter tackled bowen, tipping over the kitchen table. "Stop!" Yelled Aaron. "The witch is tearing us apart, we need to kill her not each other!" They stopped fighting, "what do we do?" Asked hunter. "Follow me, I have a plan" Aaron said, the boys ran to Jackie's house, from there to Nelson's, then to nicholas, and Scott's, then finally to Roger's.
They all slammed on the priests door, it got his attention "what is it now?!" He barked. Aaron began to explain "The witch, she-" the priest cut them off, "not this shit again" he said. He tried to close the door but bowen shoved his foot in the crack, stopping it from closing. He raised his hand and placed a dagger on the priest's throat, "you're going to listen or I'll paint your church with your trachea!" He yelled. The boys walked through the woods leading the priest at knife point to the bridge dividing the towns south and north sides. Chains with cuffs laced to a fifty pound ball waited on the cobble stone wall. "Read the script" said hunter, "this won't help you boys, god will damn you all to hell for your crimes against his church." Yelled the priest, bowen pressed the dagger against his lower back, "read it" the priest looked down to his bible and began reading in Greek. A shriek fell through the night. The preacher stopped, "dear god, you were telling the truth" he said, terror in his eyes. "Keep reading you idiot!" Yelled jackie, a black mist appeared over the treeline. Getting closer by the second, the priest continued shakily. Then, it was upon them. The witch stood in front of them her eyes bloodshot and her hair dripping with a black liquid. The preacher switched to a verse in john "for god so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son, not to condemn it, but to save it" the witch covered her ears and convulsed. She fell into a seizure "now!" Yelled Aaron. Jackie and hunter cuffed her hands and hoisted the metal ball over the wall plunging it into the dark water below. The witch slipped into the liquid, her screaming fell silent, the priest continued reading. The water bubbled as if it was boiling, then everything went still. The priest stopped. The silence was deafening. Then the black ball sprang out of the water with such a force it knocked the preist to the ground, the ball came down almost at a thousand times faster and smashed the priests head against the cement, painting the path with blood, teeth, brains, and chunks of his skull. The witch then used the very chain that was meant to bind her wrists as a means of getting back on her feet. The boys turned to flee, but a force kept them from running, as if their very own muscles were keeping them hostage. "Naughty little children!" She yelled in a shrill voice. She took a step forward, hunter shriveled, she took another step, and nelson shriveled, one after another someone shriveled until Aaron and bowen were the only ones left, "naughty, naughty, naughty" she said shaking her finger in their faces. Once more she grabbed the sides of Aaron's heads and began to drain his life, this time no such luck came from the rocks lying about. Aaron shriveled, and turned to dust, bowen screamed and cried and cussed the witch out. It just smiled at him, and sunk its fingernails into his shoulder, it began to suck his life away, his vision blurred. Then, the witch let out a shriek, suddenly bowen fell to the stone ground below, the sun was peaking over the horizon. Bowen looked down at his friends ash piles and mummified remains, he wanted to scream and cry and cuss all the curse words he knew, but no sound escaped his mouth, he was left with no one to save him, and no one to belive him.
"What happened next grandpa?" Asked the little girl, "I left and never went back to salem" said bowen, his eyes were fixated on the fireplace. His left shoulder ached "dad, it's getting late, I need to put cindy to bed" said bowens daughter. "I love you grandpa!" Yelled the little girl, "and I love you very much" he said with a wink "goodnight dad" said his daughter, she turned to walk away, "lucy" his daughter turned to him, "yes dad?" A shadow fell over Bowen's face "be sure to lock all the doors and windows, and be sure to pray" he said, she looked confused "Uh, okay dad." Bowens attention once more fell to the flames, he felt a shriek on the cold winter air, and for the first time in sixty two years, he felt a tear roll down his cheek.
